A surreal and dreamlike concept, pataphysics is intimately linked to the creativity of the eccentric and inspired French writer Alfred Jarry. Passionate and original, he created the College of Pataphysics, which he defined as dedicated to the “…Science of imaginary solutions which symbolically grants lineaments the properties of objects described by their virtuality”. Thus, since 1948, thinkers, artists and other creatives have maintained the profile of this quirky, wildly esoteric and satirical quasi-science. Philippe Starck, imminent Regent of the College, brings the discipline to its peak with an exhibition offered until August 27th at the Musée Carnavalet entitled Paris is Pataphysical.
